Killstar, a Clothing & Lifestyle company with a twist of darkness, channeling emotional power and raw energy into every thread. Established in 2010, it is now a renowned name in the fashion world, a leading icon in the goth apparels.

De-Yuan Knitting started to work with Killstar in 2015. The cooperation since has been extremely interesting and challenging. The collection of items we've made for Killstar is nearly a complete representation of all the types of hosiery products that involve various materials and manufacturing techniques available. Now we are very proud of being the major hosiery supplier to Killstar that supplies over 95% of the items under Killstar's "Women's Socks and Tights".

Below are some screen shots taken from the "Women's Socks and Tights" category on Killstar’s UK store website as of July 7, 2020. Let’s walk through the products and find out how diversified the hosiery products could be.

Jacquard is the most traditional production technique applied in hosiery production. Nowadays the knitting machines can handle more sophisticated materials, and as a result, the products are improved greatly in many ways: elasticity and expandability, durability, resolution and color assortments of the jacquard images too.

With knitting machines that work differently, such as weft knitting and warp knitting, we now have more flexibility realizing the designers’ ideas. When a pair of tights are finished off from a machine, the slashed effect is completed simultaneously. However, the un-even slash effect as seen on “Carved Up Slashed Tights” is realized with weft knitting machines, while the regular slashed openings as on “Mistress Tights” and “Epic Stockings” are done with warp knitting machines. Of course different material compositions are also used to achieve different softness, touches, fabric textures, etc.

In addition to realizing jacquard patterns with the application of yarns in different colors, it is also possible to achieve it through varied thickness and density in designated areas of the same socks or tights. "Alona Tights" are a good illustration with thicker lower legs to form the stocking effect and thinner thighs remaining sheer. On the sheer base of the tights, opaque patterns can also be made, as in "Elodie Edge Tights" and some others. Eye-catching combination of see-though areas and dark patterns.

Warp knitting is the way to go where hollow-out patterns more complicated than fishnet can be flexibly realized seamlessly. In general it works best with soft and highly elastic material combination of nylon and spandex, and can bring extra mysterious or romantic charm and sensual touch.

Other than various ways of knitting, we do need to think out of the box from time to time to meet Killstar designers’ requirements. It is not something we do everyday, but cut-n-sew is always a good option to turn to when knitting cannot provide the desired effect. "Marissa Velvet Socks" are made cut-n-sew with selected fabric that come with the required velvet touch and softness, good elasticity, and the right thickness and breathability, when none of the outcomes from the knitting machines could be completely satisfactory.

There are also those elements that add on the final touch to make the products complete. From the lace-tops that brighten up the plain socks, the little dangling pendants and embroidered marks, and the rivet rings on the cuffs, all the way to highly customized retail packages, they are the bells and whistles that bring the whole items alive and make the products more appealing. These add-on’s require various processes to fix them properly on the socks.

In current de-amalgamated supply chain of fashion apparels, very few players own all the processes in one place. It is one of De-Yuan’s core competences to coordinate along the whole supply chain and manage all out-sourced processes through high standard quality assurance system and strict quality control measures.
